Rip-roaring Laughs in Amsterdam

Right on one of the liveliest squares in Holland -- Leidseplein -- where 'anything can happen'  (trust me on this one -- I once saw an elderly trapeze artist in his skivvies hovering above the outdoor café tables) is the perfectly situated and equally improvisational comedy show venue called 'Boom Chicago', featuring comedy in English. Americans run the show, and what a hoot it is. When I was there, Bush featured heavily in the act (as you can imagine), as well as equally clever cuts at the Dutch culture -- all in good fun. (www.boomchicago.nl)

I had dinner there before the show (as their web says, "your stomach might hurt too much from laughing later") and I have to admit that it was quite good. Great night out. (New chef's name is J.J. Holland – now how did that happen?).

So, if you're hankering for some fun entertainment in English while you’re in Amsterdam, this is definitely the place to go, with shows almost nightly (and 2 on Fridays/Saturdays). To give you an idea of the subject matter, get a load of these show titles for 2008: starting around April 23rd is: 'Last One to Leave the Planet, Turn Off the Lights'; mid-August: 'Screw the Planet... Save the Oil!'; and in October: 'Bye Bye Bush'. That gives you an idea of the madness going on at Boom. They’re absolutely ‘nutzoid’ there.
